- Zero is not really zero be it zero fat, zero sodium, zero cholesterol and so on. It is perfectly legal to find small amounts of fats, sugars, trans fat, and sodium in foods labeled zero of the specific ingredients. According to experts, it is impossible to have “zero” of any of these ingredients; what zero signifies is that the quantity present is negligible and least likely to cause any health issues.
- Expiry date does not mean that the food is unsafe to eat. The FDA states that if the consumption of food causes any ill health the manufacturer will be taken to task and hence the expiry date is normally put by the manufacturer to protect himself than stating the safety of the food. This is a tactic by companies to make people buy more. So, the next time you see an expiry date on turmeric avis know that it is an indication of peak freshness and not non-usability of the product.
